Fox News as a "Wing of the Republican Party"?

Last week, Anita Dunn Director of Communications for the Obama White House commented that she thought that Fox News was another wing of the Republican Party.
After searching various politic blogs online of both liberal and conservative persuasions, I was surprised to find that people in both parties were offended by the statement. Many liberal bloggers felt that Dunn's comment would have a negative affect and actually garner sympathy for the news network. The concerns centered on the population of moderate voters who have been unhappy in recent months with some of Obama's decisions and would potentially be swayed to listen to a news network that has been painted as so adamantly conservative and "anti- Obama".

One site: Square State, the progressive political blog of Colorado had a very interesting perspective. One blogger discussed how the "right-wing" may be destroying the republican party with their out-spoken commentators and offensive remarks. Strategies that once ignited many voters in unity has now created a back-lash toward the aggressive tactics and created dissidents among many conservative voters. Some fiscally conservative voters have taken quite

the offense to comments made by commentators such as Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh whose neo-con views don't always align with the average conservative voter.

Conservative blogs sites attacked Dunn and the Obama Administration as trying to "silence the truth-tellers" and "pouting over the loss of total control of the media". I found that conservative blogs tended to be filled with hate-mongering and unfounded claims while many of the liberal blogs seemed to be passive yet critical with lack of guidance or conviction. I suppose those observations would fall right into the stereotypes of the traditional democratic and republic voter pool.

Fox News responded with various stories available on youtube
